JULY 7, 1995 was a great day for us, as this was the day we signed the papers to purchase the 15 acres of land located 4 ½ miles north of Centerville, Texas and 10 miles south of Buffalo, Texas on State Highway 75.  This acreage would eventually become known as FAWN ACRES RANCH.  We have since purchased an additional 10 acres adjoining the original 15 acres and 12 more acres 7 miles north of us on Highway 75, for a total of 37 acres of land.  We now have what we call the “East” property, the “West” property and the “North” property.    

We lived and worked in Pasadena, Texas for many years.  Wes worked at and retired from Shell Oil Company after 30 years of service, and Joan worked as Executive Secretary at Shell Oil and at Exxon for many years.   Every weekend was spent here clearing the land and preparing the site for our retirement home.  In June of the year 2000, we retired and moved here permanently to live and enjoy.  

We began our adventure by purchasing a very small herd of cattle, which produced a few calves and soon found out that this was not the vision we had anticipated for our retirement years.

THEN we bought our first horse who we named Heidi.  Our second was a five  month old filly named Chocca.  We still have both of them and since they are very close to our hearts, they will remain with us throughout their years.  However, since our initial purchases, we have increased our herd by a vast number of mostly painted quarter horses and painted Shetland ponies.  

We have a beautiful, tri-colored painted quarter horse stallion , who produces quality horse colts and fillys.  He has a very calm, sweet nature and and treats his mares with kindness and respect.  He can be viewed on the "Breeding Stock" page of this website.  We call him "Prince" because the name fits him so well.

About the time we acquired Heidi and Chocca, we bought three donkeys and then discovered that there was quite a market in this area for them due to the protection they provide for calves and colts from wolves, coyotes, fox, etc.  So we purchased a few more for resale and our business grew from there.   We now have a large selection of painted and Sicilian regular size donkeys for sale.  Most of them can be found grazing at our “North” property.
